Foundation Concerts present Jagjaguwar artists Dinosaur Jr. with special guests Pink Mountaintops!
Foundation Concerts are pleased to announce that one of the USA’s most legendary indie-rockers, Dinosaur Jr. will play a series of shows in western Canada. Hot off the release of their latest studio recording Farm, the band teams up with Vancouver artists & label mates Pink Mountaintops.
The worry about the reunion of the original Dinosaur Jr. line-up, more than 20 years after their formation and legendary dissolution, was that these guys were just flogging the back catalog as a marketing gimmick. With the release of Beyond, in 2007, the band gave a hearty Marshall-driven "F**K YOU!" answer to those inquiring ears. Restoring the sound established by the opening hat-trick gambit of Dinosaur, You're Living All Over Me, and Bug, the Beyond record continued the band's march into rock greatness by making old ears smile and new ears bleed afresh. And now comes Farm, Dinosaur Jr.'s first double LP and their fifth full length record by the original line-up -- J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph -- set to release on their new label home Jagjaguwar on June 23rd. If Beyond was Dinosaur Jr.'s return to form, Farm is proof that this band continues to deliver that which makes rock worth cranking to 11. At times wholly 70's guitar-epic, at times perfect for sitting by a babbling brook with Joni and Neil, Farm encompasses Dinosaur Jr.'s signature palette - soaring and distorted guitar, unshakable hooks, honey-rich melodies - songs that get into your head and, bouncing around happily, stay there. The ear-catching "Plans" is nearly 7 minutes of classic whipped-topping rock dessert, while "I Don't Wanna Go There" is a meat-and-potatoes main dish, mixing unapologetic lead guitar with straight-ahead delivery a la James Gang or Humble Pie. These two tunes round out twelve tracks propelled by the unique energy of one of America's greatest living rock bands hitting their stride.
"Outside Love" is the third album by Pink Mountaintops, AKA Stephen McBean, who has slowly emerged as a distinctive voice and a very special contributor to the North American songbook. A veteran of the Vancouver/Victoria punk rock scene, McBean is best known for his contributions to acclaimed rock band Black Mountain, as principal songwriter, guitarist and co-vocalist. The ten songs on "Outside Love" are about or influenced by weddings in Montreal, winter, Pink Floyd's The Final Cut, Christmas albums, that one Exile song and that one Echo and the Bunnymen song, the Bermuda Triangle, being depressed in the sunshine, people who haven't made out yet but will in the future, The Everly Brothers, clowns in the ceilings, and bedrooms where skinheads used to live.

Foundation Concerts & RMS present Vagrant recording artistsThe Hold Steady This September!
Foundation Concerts & RMS are pleased to announce that one of the USA's biggest buzz acts, The Hold Steady will play a series of shows in western Canada. Hot off the success of their latest studio recording Stay Postive, and live DVD A Positive Rage, this will surely be a set of shows not to miss this fall.
Resisting the musical trends in New York City, vocalist/guitarist Craig Finn (ex-Lifter Puller) formed the Hold Steady after moving from Minneapolis in 2000. Wanting to capture the sound of bands such as the Replacements and the Grifters, he recruited guitarist Tad Kubler (also ex-Lifter Puller), drummer Judd Counsell, and bassist Galen Polivka. Recording mostly live, the band released its debut, Almost Killed Me, on Frenchkiss Records in March 2004. Dave Gardener (Rocket from the Crypt, Drive Like Jehu) and Dean Botulonis signed on to produce Separation Sunday, which arrived in 2005. The World/Inferno Friendship Society's Franz Nicolay (keyboards) and Bobby Drake (drums), formerly of End Transmission and Arm, were also added to the Hold Steady lineup. The band's third effort, 2006's Boys and Girls in America, marked its first release for Vagrant. After writing the majority of their fourth record on the road, the Hold Steady returned to John Agnello's Water Music studio to record Stay Positive, their most heavily produced effort. In July of 2008, the album was released by both Vagrant and Rough Trade.

Winnipeg Ska & Reggae Festival 2009 Announces Line-up
In tough economic times, consumers are always encouraged to 'buy local.' It's a message that resonates with the organizers of the Winnipeg Ska and Reggae Festival (WSRF). Although the WSRF has, in past years, featured international reggae legends like Sugar Minott (2008), Willi Williams (2007) and the late Mikey Dread (2006), the recession-ready fourth annual event will present talent from right here in its own backyard.
The 2009 festival, which runs from Aug. 20-22, boasts an all-Canadian lineup of performers working in all aspects of the reggae idiom, from the 11-piece Newfoundland ska powerhouse the Idlers to Juno-nominated reggae ambassador Jason Wilson to hometown heroes like Greg Crowe and the Scarlet Union.
This year also marks a return to Winnipeg's renowned West End Cultural Centre -- which was under renovations in 2008 -- for a Saturday night headlining performance by Toronto's Fredlocks Asher and the Ultra Flex Crew, supported by some of Winnipeg's best and brightest. As always, the WSRF concerts take place at inner-city venues, including the King's Head Pub and, for the first time, the Royal Albert Arms.
The three-day festival, sponsored by Winnipeg's own Half Pints Brewing Company, which has created a special brew for the event, is organized and operated each year by a committee of dedicated volunteers. The WSRF counts on community support to continue bringing Winnipeg audiences the very finest in
ska and reggae music.

Saturday, August 15th @ The Graffiti Gallery (109 higgins ave.)
5$ (or 3$ with a non perishable food)
Featuring:
Bomber (Calgary)
One of the most intense projects currently happening in the noise scene. Seriously, this guy is the real deal. HEAVY themes of middle east suicide bombings, backed by walls of intense noise. Dude takes on another persona for ~7 minutes of spiritual ferocity.
RDC (Calgary)
In some ways the antithesis to the harsh noise blasted by so many in the scene, masked man RDC creates thick, gnarly drones that move and throb at high volumes. This is often followed by a minute of ear-cleaning high frequency oscillations.
Also playing are some local acts:
KkrakK!! (sci fi noise with minimal crushing rhythms)
Suture (costumed performance art with dreamy soundscapes)
White Dog (minimal intense textured drone noise)
Each act will play 15 minutes max, so this will likely end nice n early. Sound will be awesome, earplugs will be provided.
